A Dam Festival

August 18th, 2011 by insideout

Every summer there’s a Dam Festival at the Historic Miller Property, which is about five miles from our luxury Michigan Bed and Breakfast and restaurant. This year it will take place on August 27, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Linger over dinner at The English Inn after the Dam Festival.

The Dam Festival was created so folks could learn about the history of Eaton Rapids, the surrounding area, and indeed the heartland of America. It celebrates the way things used to be “back in the day”. Visit a one-room schoolhouse, learn why Eaton Rapids was once known as the “Ice Cream Capital of the World”, and then enjoy a scoop or two at the historic ice cream parlor. See a blacksmith shop, an old general store, and one of the longest old barns in the state, as well.

Tours of the dams around Eaton Rapids will also be offered on Saturday, August 27. Dam tours are fascinating, especially since the heart of Eaton Rapids is entirely surrounded by water.

Act like a local and spend the weekend at our luxurious Eaton Rapids Michigan lodging. Enjoy the Dam Festival by day, and dinner at our gourmet, DiRoNA restaurant in the evening. A stroll through our expansive gardens to the pergola overlooking the Grand River is the perfect way to end any day.

For additional information about the Dam Festival, please visit Eaton Rapids Area Historical Society.

Bridal Show, 2011

February 10th, 2011 by insideout

We’re hosting a Bridal Show at our Eaton Rapids Lodging on Sunday, February 20, 2011. Between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., future brides will have the opportunity to speak with wedding planners and caterers. A variety of wedding dresses will also be on display.

Bring your mother, your sister, and your best friend. Planning a wedding is often stressful, but it should be fun. For one wintry afternoon, don’t agonize over whether or not you should invite your second-cousin-once-removed (and his five children). Instead, gaze upon glorious wedding gowns and imagine yourself in them. Sample a wedding cake. Sip champagne.

We look forward to filling our Lansing Michigan Wedding Venue with prospective brides. While we enjoy all aspects of running a restaurant and inn, we have to admit that weddings are among our favorite events.

For more information about the February 20, 2011 Bridal Show, please call (517) 663-2500.

Lansing Michigan Weddings

November 8th, 2010 by insideout

Simply put, The English Inn is a spectacular venue for Lansing weddings.

A bride and groom in Medovue Hall.

We offer numerous wedding packages and will help you create your own option should none of ours feel quite right. Our Lansing Inn features several intimate spaces ideal for smaller ceremonies and receptions, while the ballroom in newer Medovue Hall comfortably holds 200 guests. Couples hoping for an outdoor ceremony will find our historic grounds ideal; intimate ceremonies are wonderful in the English Gardens, while The Pergola on the Grand is a scenic spot for larger outdoor ceremonies.

Our Michigan inn and restaurant was originally the home of auto baron Irving Jacob Reuter, who had it built in 1927. The mansion welcomed many of the biggest names in the Automotive Industry through 1936, when the Reuters retired to Florida. Great pains were taken to maintain many original features when the building was converted to an inn, restaurant, and conference center in 1989. The pergola, swimming pool, fishpond and gardens are as they were when the Reuters resided here.

Since we are an inn, there is no need for the wedding party to stay elsewhere. Let us take care of everything so you can enjoy your wedding.
