Charlotte’s Courthouse Square

March 17th, 2010 by insideout

Charlotte, MI is a charming town about 15  miles east of our Lansing MI bed and breakfast. It is a lovely place to pass an afternoon while you are staying at the inn. The main street of Charlotte has many fine shops, and there are several good eateries in town.

After you explore a bit, head to the 1885 Courthouse Museum. You’ll find an authentic 1900’s farm kitchen there, along with a Victorian Parlor. Visit a One Room School House, and a 19th Century Doctor’s Office. In addition, there is a Military Exhibit featuring historic uniforms and interesting information about older military practices.

The Eaton County Hall of History gives a fairly detailed history of every town in Eaton County, and the Native American Exhibit talks about the First Peoples of this region.

The Courthouse Museum is a great way to learn about the history of this part of Michigan. You are sure to find it worth the trip whether you live in Michigan or come from out of state. Architecture buffs will appreciate the beauty of the building, and history buffs will appreciate the exhibits.

When you return from Charlotte, enjoy a light meal and drink in the pub of our Michigan bed and breakfast, or a more formal dinner in the restaurant. It is a refreshing way to close the day.
