Those of you who appreciate modern dance will want to take advantage of our proximity to Happendance when staying at our Lansing area inn.
Happendance takes its name from the company’s origins; some of their first performances were free outdoor events that took place in 1976 along the banks of the Red River at MSU. The audience? Anyone who “happened” upon them.
Thanks to the excellent reputation the company has garnered over the years, wishful spectators tend to plan to happen upon Happendance. Nonetheless, the dance company remains committed to offering free performances, to help fulfill its mission to “broaden the accessibility of dance”.
Happendance First Fridays are free and open to the public. The First Friday of each month the troupe performs at their studio in Okemos, just east of Lansing. Often these evenings include sneak previews for upcoming performances. Friday, February 5 at 8pm is one such show – a preview of The Body.
The premier of The Body will take place March 5 at the Hannah Community Center in Lansing.
