The 20th annual Lansing JazzFest, scheduled for August 1st and 2nd, 2014, is a free, 2-day festival of great, new, live music as performed by national, regional, and local jazz artists.
What sets the Lansing JazzFest apart from other, similar music festivals is that, at Lansing JazzFest, the artists are asked to perform at least one original composition they’ve never played live before. So, while you may still hear jazz standards and favorite themes, you’ll also be treated to not just live but living music – new compositions that may become the classics of the future, springing to life right before you!
The Lansing JazzFest routinely attracts thousands of people to its stage and the streets of Lansing, Michigan’s Old Town – and no wonder! With a schedule that includes such top artists as these, who wouldn’t go?
Aguanko
The Brian Charette Trio
The Corey Kendrick Quartet
Glenn Brown & Intergalactic Spiral
Jim Alfredson’s Dirty Fingers
The Matt LoRusso Quartet
Planet D Nonet
The Randy Gelispie Quartet with Fareed Haque
RYZ
JAMM Scholarship Quartet featuring James Heinlein
On top of hearing all these great performers, you’ll also have the opportunity to attend various workshops, such as the Latin Rhythms Workshop with Aquanko and the Guitar Master Class with Fareed Haque.
Kids are welcome, too – Saturday even offers an attraction especially for them: KidzBeat! KidzBeat will have booths geared specifically towards the little ones with activities like face-painting, hands-on arts and crafts, and – best of all! – two tents full of musicians ready to offer hands-on experiences on a variety of different instruments. KidzBeat happens Saturday, 1pm to 7pm the weekend of the Lansing JazzFest.
Along with all the music, workshops and activities, Lansing JazzFest also includes food, drink, and vendors displaying arts, crafts, jewelry, clothing, and more. Lansing’s Old Town adds to the spectrum of attractions with its unique art galleries and boutiques.
